Do Service Guard plans require a deductible?
No. Repairs on covered parts/appliances have no deductible and no annual repair limit.
What does a Service Guard plan cover?
Service Guard covers repair of eligible appliances, including parts and labor, when they experience a mechanical or electrical failure. Covered appliance types depend on your plan (Comfort Plan, Add‑On, or À la Carte).

What appliances or issues are NOT covered?
- Cosmetic/non‑functional items and normal maintenance items (e.g., filters, cleaning).
- Damage from misuse, improper installation, weather, power surges or other non‑mechanical causes.
- Certain parts and systems (e.g., ductwork, venting, tanks, coils, major leaks, accessories).
- Specific appliance types and brands that are excluded (e.g., high‑end or commercial‑grade models, portable units, induction cooktops, window A/C, geothermal, certain water heater sizes).

How does the repair vs. replace decision work?
Service Guard assesses whether repair is feasible or replacement of the appliance is deemed necessary.
How quickly does coverage begin?
There is a 20-day waiting period for all repairs from the enrollment date of your appliance coverage.
Who will work on my appliances with a Service Guard plan?
Your appliances will be protected and serviced by local, qualified by Black Hills Energy service technicians or a contractor who has been qualified and hired through Black Hills Energy.
How do I schedule repairs?
Call us at 888-890-5554. Customer service teams are in Rapid City, South Dakota, and Fayetteville, Arkansas. You can also log into your Black Hills Energy customer portal and schedule repairs or inspections online.
What should I expect when scheduling a repair?
When you call, we schedule an appointment, ask a few diagnostic questions and gather appliance details (brand, model, age).
Appointments will be scheduled 8 a.m.–noon or noon–5 p.m.
Technicians may call 30 minutes before arrival. An adult, age 18 or older, must be present, and pets must be safely secured.
Can I schedule repairs for after hours?
Primary heating equipment covered by your plan is eligible for service within 24 hours, including after hours, weekends and holidays. You must call in to schedule an after-hours repair for your primary heat. All other repairs will be scheduled during normal business hours.
How much does the plan cost per month?

If I don’t want to invest in a plan, are there other options?
Yes, you can schedule a one-time repair for your appliance by one of our Black Hills Energy technicians. Services and prices vary by area. Call us at 888-890-5554 to schedule.

Is R22 or refrigerant-related services covered?
